Why Holistic Nutrition?
As a Holistic Nutritionist, the term 'holistic' often confuses people.
It is frequently associated with moon signs, hippies, and crystals; However, that is not quite what I do. Therefore, I wanted to clarify what holistic truly means and how it influences my approach to nutritional care.

What is Holistic?
The term holistic is currently quite trendy. More people are recognizing the benefits of a holistic practice. There are holistic yoga teachers, doctors, and even mail carriers, I imagine.
But what does that entail?
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, holistic is defined as:
“of or relating to holism or relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts.”
Holistic Nutrition
This means that as a Nutritionist, I strive to see the entirety of who you are as a person to create the most personalized plan for you. I always consider the following factors: time availability, cooking experience, health goals, medical conditions, food preferences, food allergies, current lifestyle, stress levels, financial situation, and cultural foods.
Additionally, I examine medical and nutritional issues through the lens of the whole body. For example, I don’t view arthritis as merely a joint issue. Rather than just masking the pain, I seek to uncover the signals the body is trying to communicate. I look for the root causes of the arthritis. Is there chronic inflammation in the body? Where is it originating from? Identifying that source is vital.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that holistic practitioners exist on a spectrum. Any practitioner can label themselves as holistic, and the significance of that label varies among individuals. I gravitate more toward evidence-based and clinically proven holistic methods.
